Creating a Buy & Sell Locally Ad Tips
- Create a headline that includes the product name, condition grade (e.g., "9/10"), and your asking price and acceptable terms (e.g., Firm, "OBO" for "Or Best Offer" or "Trade Considered").
- Include high-quality photos from various angles showcasing the front and back and any imperfections or damage. Well-lit, clear images are essential for potential buyers to accurately evaluate the item's condition.
- Provide a detailed product description, including the make, model, year, specifications, and notable features or upgrades. If available, include the manufacturer's product link or official description.
- Use a reputable grading scale, like Audiogon's, to assign a numerical condition rating (e.g., 8/10) and explain your rationale for the grade.
- Briefly explain your reason for selling, to build trust and transparency with potential buyers.
- Clearly state your accepted payment methods (e.g., PayPal, cash, bank transfer).
- Indicate if the item is, or isn't, available for audition.
- Specify your preferred delivery method and associated costs, if any (e.g., local pickup only, domestic shipping at buyer's expense, international shipping available at an additional cost).
- Specify your preferred contact method (e.g., email, phone or text) and refer members to your member Bio for your contact details.
Important: To protect your privacy, avoid including Personally identifiable information (PII) directly in your post. As previously stated, member contact information should only be shared via your member Bio.
General Selling Tips
- Respond promptly to serious inquiries and offers. Consider stating lowball offers will be ignored.
- Be prepared to negotiate reasonably with interested buyers and remain patient. Finding the right buyer can take time.
- Consider revising your asking price and update your ad with the comment "PRICE REDUCED" to generate more interest if the item doesn't sell initially.
- After the item has sold, remember to update your thread with a post to indicate the item has been sold. Also email us at contact@audiophilefoundation.org, and we will mark your listing as SOLD.
