After SFAS received a generous donation of HiFi equipment which included an older MSB DAC that needed repair, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit the MSB Technology factory while dropping off the DAC. Even though they were in the midst of moving into their new factory location in Watsonville, brothers and co-owners of MSB Technology, Daniel and Jonathan Gullman were very cordial and accommodating.
All of the MSB products are designed and manufactured in the US, so it was great to be able to see their headquarters. The MSB chassis and modules are made out of solid billets of aluminum by CNC machines and an SMT machine line is used to assemble every PCB. According to Jonathan and Daniel, every piece is inspected and tested before assembly and the completed products are inspected and tested again before shipping. Note the Discrete DAC and the new S500 amplifier below next to the test bench.
In addition to the factory at the new Watsonville location, Jonathan and Daniel are putting together a listening room that should be second to none. When the listening room is completed and we no longer have to social distance we’ll make arrangements for a visit for SFAS members – I’m looking forward to that in more ways than one!
