Rufus Reid/Caelan Cardello - Rufus Reid Presents Caelan Cardello

There has been a lot of audio industry press surrounding this 2023 release that was executively produced by “The Pied Piper of Vinyl” himself, Michael Fremer, mastered by Bob Ludwig, and pressed at Quality Records on 180-gram vinyl, so I won’t repeat what has already been covered by Michael himself on his Tracking Angle website or in the interview with PS Audio’s Frank Doris, and elsewhere. But, despite the widespread news about this record, in a recent conversation with a couple of other Foundation members I became aware of the fact that they had not heard of this album. So, if you don’t already own this record you can say you heard about it here first.

But, what about the music? Well, for jazz fans, bassist extraordinaire Rufus Reid should need no introduction. He has recorded on over 500 albums since the 70s, 25 of those under his own name. But, the young pianist, composer, and arranger Caelan Cardello has but one release on his website, this LP, albeit, in a CD format. Mikey, you should get him to add a link to the vinyl record too! Then again, Caelan Cardello is only 22 (or 23?) years of age and has plenty of time to build his discography.

I didn’t find the music on Qobuz but you can check out the first track from the Music Angle website or their YouTube channel, (link below) and get a copy of the vinyl record from the Acoustic Sounds website (also, linked below).

And you can save the date, September 14th, for Michael Fremer’s next live and in-person Bay Area visit with the Audiophile Foundation where I’m sure he would be happy to autograph your copy of the record. No word yet on whether monsieur's Reid and Cardello will be accompanying Mikey on his stay with us. J
